Most VC Web sites push similar agendas: showcase the star investments, profile the partners, and claim some kind of key differentiator. The entrepreneurs who use the sites have a different perspective. Greylock’s research indicated a specific set of concerns common to most new entrepreneurs, and provided context for entrepreneur research.

Rather than relying on the industry template, I created a user experience tailored to entrepreneurs’ priorities. The highlight of this experience is a robust filtering system that quickly answers crucial questions: “Does Greylock work with companies like mine?” “What companies are they in right now?” “Who do I talk to?”

A “logo quilt” is often sufficient to satisfy entrepreneurs’ curiosity, but a simple toggle provides an unobtrusive way for more deliberate researchers to obtain key information.

The usage context for Greylock’s mobile site is quite different than the desktop version and it therefore functions in a completely different way. The mobile site focuses on getting entrepreneurs to their meetings, contacting partners, and quickly reviewing Greylock’s investments.
